Commessaggio (MN)

This charming village conveys a serene and authentic atmosphere, enveloped by rural vistas that encapsulate the essence of the Italian countryside.  With its cobblestone streets and traditional homes, Commessaggio creates a setting where time appears to slow down, providing visitors with a respite from the fast pace of urban life.

The warmth and hospitality of the Commessaggio community are evident in the local customs and lively events that dot the town’s calendar.  This town acts as a hub for those in search of genuine experiences, providing an opportunity to immerse oneself in the culinary art and cultural traditions that define the region.  Particularly noteworthy is the production of Melone Mantovano IGP, a tradition dating back to the Gonzaga era.
An outstanding feature is the Gonzaga Tower of Commessaggio, a building entirely constructed from bricks under the direction of Duke Vespasiano Gonzaga in 1583.  The tower served as a tax collection point and shelter for soldiers on guard duty. Its interior comprises three levels, with the top floor believed to have been reserved for the duke during his visits to Commessaggio.  Notably, the attic features slots through which objects could be thrown or boiling oil poured onto potential intruders. Recently, the Gonzaga Tower has been revitalized and an astronomical observatory, with telescopes installed in the attic and an innovative multimedia system boosted its role.

Commessaggio’s surroundings are dotted by cultivated fields and natural landscapes, providing ample opportunities for leisurely walks and relaxation.  Here, the beauty of the natural surroundings harmoniously blends with traditional architecture, painting a charming and evocative picture.
